Oh my Melons…

Watermelons

Natural Energizer!

I call it a magical fruit😋! I recently decided to eat more of watermelons at least thrice a week and its been doing miraculous wonders to my body.

Watermelon is a sweet and refreshing low calorie summer snack. It provides hydration and also essential nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Watermelon is around 90% water, which makes it useful for staying hydrated in the summer. It can also satisfy a sweet tooth with its natural sugars.

Me Likey!

There are many useful peoperties of the watermelon fruit and some are:

Blood pressure reduction

Researchers found that watermelon extract reduced blood pressure in and around the ankles of middle aged people with obesity and early hypertension.

Hydration

Since watermelon is around 90% water and also provides electrolytes, such as potassium. This makes it a healthy choice of snack during the hot summer months. You can eat watermelon fresh, as juice, or even frozen in slices for a tasty cold Popsicle style snack.

Hmm… Yummy!

Skin Rejuvenation

Watermelon contains vitamin C, which is essential for the body to produce collagen. Collagen is essential for cell structure and immune function. Vitamin C also promotes wound healing and we all know that if a wound heals over nicely, there will be no scars and if there are no scars, the skin will look smooth and fresh.

Did you know that watermelon is also a very good fruit to add to you weight loss plan? Yes it is!

Watermelons can help in reducing your BMI (Body Mass Index), lower body weight and even help you feel full due to its very high water content.

Can you see why I love this fruit? It’s one of my favorites.

Watermelon can be taken in different ways;

Juice

It can be juiced by placing watermelon and a few ice cubes in a blender for a cold, refreshing, drink that’s just perfect for rehydrating after your exercise or a day in the sun.

Salad

Ingredients

Freshly cut watermelon cubes

Mozzarella cheese

Fresh mint leaves

A bed of spinach leaves

Spice (Optional)

Procedure

Add watermelon cubes, mint, and fresh mozzarella to your bed of spinach leaves. Sprinkle some pepper, drizzle with dressing of your choice and voila! You have your tasty healthy salad!

🤯

Smoothies

Make a watermelon smoothie or combine with orange juice to get that extra tang. Juicing breaks down the fiber present in watermelons, therefore making the sugar easier to absorb. People with diabetes should consider eating fresh, whole watermelon rather than drinking juice.

Roasted seeds

Every part of the watermelon is beneficial to you. You can roast the watermelon seeds in an oven for 20 minutes to make a tasty snack or you can eat the seeds as you eat your watermelon, no need to separate them. One ounce (28.5 g) of seeds can provide around 8 g of protein, or 14% – 17% of a person’s daily protein needs.

Slow down!

Note that some premade juices may contain added sugars and this is not healthy in any way, so it’s beneficial to check for this before buying any juices. However i recommend that eating watermelon whole is the most healthy option for you.
